Celebrate National Public Health Week

Each year, the Union County Health Department joins in the celebration of National Public Health Week April 2–8, 2001. The Union County Health Department is charged with protecting and improving the health of all Union County residents. Our theme this year is What Matters to You, Matters to Us. Along with the many services we are required to provide, we communicate with our residents, community leaders, political figures and community agencies to identify what is needed. Whether directly or indirectly, you and your family benefited in some way from our programs of immunization, inspection and health education.

Your health department is a consistent resource of preventive health services for you and your family and we strive toward healthy beginnings, healthy families, healthy environments and healthy communities. In Union County, we have programs that focus on healthy residents and healthy communities that help move public health into the 21^st century.  These programs include immunization programs, cancer screening, family planning, home visits, smoking prevention programs, car seat checks and various health promotion and education programs.

The Health Department also covers environmental health issues including recycling and litter prevention, programs for safe water and sewage, food and vending safety inspections, radon testing and animal bite inspections for the control of rabies.
