An Insurance Plan for Children

New guidelines mean that more children than ever are being covered by Healthy Start Plus. Healthy Start Plus could be a security blanket for your child.

You work hard, but simply having a job doesn't mean that all your financial needs are being met. If you need health insurance for your children, or are pregnant and need prenatal care, you should apply for Healthy Start Plus: An Insurance Plan for Children.

Healthy Start Plus covers children from birth through 18 years of age. That means that your child could receive medical, dental and eye care at no cost.

How can I give my child the security of Healthy Start Plus?
Applying for Healthy Start Plus is simple. All it takes is a phone call to the Union County Health Department at 937-642-0801 or 1-888-333-9461 , ext. 24 or stop by the Health Department at 621 South Plus Street in Marysville. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may also apply by contacting the Union County Department of Human Services at 644-1010.

A detailed interview is not necessary. You will be asked to fill out an application form and provide some verification of information.

How do I know if I qualify for Healthy Start Plus?
Eligibility into Healthy Start Plus is based on family size and gross income up to 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. (See chart below). You do not need to worry that your personal possessions will count against you. For instance, you need a car to get to work, and being able to afford a car doesn't mean that you can afford to pay for your child's health care bills. If you are paying for childcare so you can work, your childcare cost may be deducted from your gross income, up to $250 per month.

With Healthy Start Plus...
There is no cost to you.

	Your child gets quality health care, vision and dental care, prescriptions, doctor visits, vaccinations, hospital care and more.
	You are allowed to choose the doctors your children see.
	You never have to worry about co-pays.
	You can get coverage for pre-existing conditions.
	You can have peace of mind knowing in a medical emergency your child will have medical insurance.
	Re-determination for Healthy Start eligibility is every six months.
	Your child could be covered through 18 years of age.
